Japanese Institute of Sawtelle Private Preschool

Japanese Institute of Sawtelle (JIS) is a historic West LA institution serving the Japanese American community of Los Angeles since 1925. The main classroom building had been untouched for decades and Satoh Brothers performed an extensive down-to-the-studs renovation of the school. All mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and roofing was completely overhauled and provided new, and much of the framing had suffered from termite damage and was replaced. The addition of new skylights, moveable walls, and vibrant finishes create a light-filled open atmosphere. In addition to the building improvements, Satoh Brothers also created an entirely new site drainage system, extensive landscaping, hardscaping, and a new playground.
